It was a usual day at business for Barcelona captain Lionel Messi as he scored his 6th league goal of the season, but his team continued their downward spiral in the Spanish league as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Valencia at Mestalla.
Barcelona, who enjoyed 76 percent of the ball, had 5 shots on target. Messi was the only one on the scoresheet for the visitors as he equalised compatriot Ezequiel Garay’s second-minute goal from a set piece.
20 minutes later, Lionel Messi struck a rolling shot from outside the box which beat the goal-keeper and went in goal. That was Barcelona’s only breakthrough of the night as they lost 2 more points.
In their last 3 games, Barcelona drew thrice and lost once, accumulating just 4 points in 4 fixtures. The positive for the Blaugranes, however, is that arch-rivals Real Madrid are also on a poor run of form and have lost more points than Barcelona in their past few fixtures.
As of now, Sevilla sit on top of the Spanish league table with 16 points in 8 games. Barcelona are second with 15, Atletico Madrid are third with 15 points and less goals scored than Barca, while Real Madrid are fourth with 14 points.
Barcelona will face a tough test in Sevilla on Sunday at the Camp Nou at 11:45pm Pakistan Standard Time.
